February for us at Shambhala House is the month of Peace, Love and Happiness. Why you might ask?
Well January sees many of us slide into the new year a bit worse for wear after a hectic month of celebrating a myriad of holiday traditions. Many of us start with celebrations to see in the New Year and spend the first couple of weeks creating memories with our families and friends. At the same time, we are in planning and organising mode for the year, which often involves a list of tasks as long as our arms including getting children back to school and returning to work.
So when February rolls around, it is time to breath. It is also traditionally the month of love, which sees many people around the world celebrating Valentine's Day on the 14th. We, at Shambhala House, thought we would take a more soulful approach to February by celebrating 'Peace, Love and Happiness' for all.
So here is our 'Gifts For the Heart ' with everything from self care ideas to gift suggestions. We hope you enjoy!
1. The Gift For The Mind
The perfect way to exhale is with the gift of meditation. According to Buddhism practices, it is a means to transform the mind to encourage and develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and calmness so one can see the true nature of things.
There are a number of ways one can learn to meditate, e.g. doing courses, going on retreats, surfing the web, downloading apps and checking out YouTube. There are also many different ways one can meditate from the practice of quietening the mind to guided meditations, which focus on different aspects in life. A daily practice of five minutes is a free and simple way to get you started.
Want to explore mediation further then how about gift yourself with a weekend retreat with a girlfriend!
2. The Gift For The Heart
After a gift for a beautiful friend, sister, cousin or aunt? Or perhaps something for your own heart and soul? How about give a true 'Gift For The Heart' that nurtures the soul. This serene gift pack valued at $45.50 from Shambhala House includes a silver heart chakra pendant, budha and incense.
The silver heart chakra pendant symbolises the fourth chakra located in your heart. It signifies the element of air and represents our ability to have compassion and love towards others. It also acts as the bridge between the upper and lower chakras.
The Buddha's head represents the Buddha's wisdom along with the serene smile of the face symbolizing its peaceful and calm nature. A calming relaxation incense completes this pack.

3. The Gift for the Body, Mind and Spirit
If you haven't already tried yoga before then 2018 could be the year you give it a go. Just as there are many different types of yoga, there are also many reasons people practice yoga, but, essentially it makes you feel better. Yoga is a combination of postures, breathing exercises and meditation to help you feel healthier in your body, mind and spirit.
Just like meditation, you can find things online to get you started from YouTube videos to apps. So if you are time or cash poor then these are great alternatives. However, going to classes where teachers can help you with your journey and teach you the different postures correctly is of great benefit. Have a friend with an upcoming birthday that is also keen to try? Then gifting them classes would be a great way to get them started!
One of my goals this year is to get back into yoga, so I am on the look out myself for classes in my area! Perhaps I will see you there.
4. The Gift of Health
There is lots of information one can tap into about the benefits of having a more plant-based diet from helping the environment to improving your own health. Research suggests that it helps to decrease your risk of heart disease, cancer and stroke!
I am going vegetarian for the month of February, but I started by simply having a day or two a week of no meat. Unsure if you can fit the meal preparation into your life just now. Then perhaps gifting yourself with having vegetarian meals prepared and delivered to your home daily could be the way to start.
If you don't think you can go four weeks then by simply giving yourself one day a week to focus on your health is a great place to start. Lots of people are having Meatless Mondays so this could be a tribe to join!
5. The Gift of Giving Twice
There was a time when organisations looked to charitable donations to support their causes. Now we have amazing industries popping up that are being run by the very people these organisations once supported. Social and environmental responsibilities are also now the core values of small businesses, many of whom set up mechanisms in their companies to support different things from children and disabilities to raising money for medical research.
Wanting to buy a gift for someone? You can also Give The Gift That Gives Twice. This gift pack from Shambhala House valued at $37.50 comprises our popular brass Karma bangle (20cm diameter), which is inscribed with the words 'What Goes Around Comes Around'. For every bangle bought $2 goes towards the Pelangi School in Bali and helps give a child an education. Coupled with a good luck elephant and you have a lovely gift for a friend!

6. The Gift Of Pampering
Perhaps you have a friend in need of a little pampering? Then a gift voucher to a day spa could be the perfect way to go. Or perhaps you are in need of some time out with your tribe so why not book you and your girlfriends into the day spa for the day and get the works done from a rose petal bath and body scrub to a medi/pedi and facial!
7. The Gift of Imperfection
Love comes in all shapes and sizes, is a little misshapen at times and rarely perfect. These misshapen pottery vases from Shambhala House reflects the imperfection in all of this, but whose beauty still lights up any rooms. The vases are small and round and will be a lovely Valentine's Day gift with three or for small stemmed flowers in each. Total cost of the three vases together is $36.
Message us for more information! We'd love to put a gift basket together for you!
8. The Gift of Knowledge
Whether it be a book, workshop, retreat or study course, the Gift of Knowledge is a wonderful present for yourself, a friend or family member. People's desire to grow their mind can be for a myriad of reason from career and business purposes to personal development, hobbies and passion. Or perhaps you simply have a friend who needs time out so book them on a retreat and provide them with the means to ensure other things in their life are taken care of while they attend!
9. The Gift of Tradition
The gift of a bottle of champagne, roses and chocolates are traditional things many have used for centuries to say 'I love you'. Sometimes simplicity and tradition is all you need to say to someone that you love them, appreciate and are so happy they are in your life.
Beautiful flowers is something that I will infrequently gift to myself to fill the house with colour and wonderful aromas.
10. The Gift of Time
But the greatest gift of all is the Gift of Time so take some time out, spend time with family and friends, and let them know how much you love and appreciate them.
